The Liebster Award!

liebsterblogaward

(Wow… it shows up as really big for some reason. I feel like I should worship it, like a scene out of Lord of the Flies.)

I recently found out that the wonderful Alex Raphael nominated me for the Liebster Award! I really love his blog, and I felt so humbled to be nominated. Especially to be included in the same list as so many other blogs that I love. Thank you Alex! Here’s a visual representation of what happened when I read my email that afternoon.

Here’s how the Liebster Award works. Those nominated are blogs with tons of potential, but with less than 200 followers. If you’ve been nominated, and you choose to accept, here are the rules:

  1. Thank the person who nominated you and link to their blog
  2. You must answer the 10 questions given to you by the nominee before you
  3. Nominate 10 of your favorite blogs with fewer than 200 followers and notify them of their nomination
  4. Come up with 10 questions for your nominees to answer

10 Questions
What is the nicest/most memorable thing someone has said in your blog?
I feel really flattered whenever anyone says that a film review makes them want to watch the film. Particularly when I’m writing about something I love, because then I just want everyone to see it and love it as well.

How different is your blog to how you planned it?
I wasn’t really planning much for it. Initially I thought I’d just write film reviews but it’s turned out to expand into the occasional cinematography post, blogathon post, or post highlighting weird search terms. I think by not having too many expectations or parameters, a blog can be anything you want it to be!

Which literary character do you most identify with?
This is a difficult question. I really want to be like Hermione Granger because not only is she super smart and generally amazing, she’s an incredibly loyal friend. She has a lot of qualities that I would like to have myself.

Which piece of art would you most like to have on your wall?
Instead of having a piece of art on my wall, I’d love to live within the Teatro-Museo Dalí in Figueres, Spain. The whole museum is like a gigantic work of art. When I went there I walked around with my mouth hanging open like an idiot the whole time because it was the most amazing experience. I could sleep on the pillows of Mae West’s lips and drive around in Dalí’s car that rains on the inside. If only it wasn’t swarmed with tourists all the time, it would be the perfect home.

Who are you most like in your family?
Definitely my dad. We look alike and have very similar personality quirks.

Which celebrity would you most like to meet?
I wonder if this tests the boundary of ‘celebrity’, but I’ve decided that I would really love to meet Alejandro Jodorowsky. I just love The Holy Mountain (1973) so much and I want to ask him so many questions about it. He always puts cute things on Twitter, like “Gud bai. Ai lab yú” and it warms my heart every time. I just want to have a chat with him about life.

What is your favourite drink/cocktail?
I like a nice mojito but I’m also partial to pear cider with lots of ice.

Which sporting event would you most want VIP tickets to?
I would love tickets to the AFL Grand Final here in Melbourne, but only if my team makes it to the final! (They did win last year but I’m not sure if they’ll get there again so soon. Go Hawks.)

What was your favourite book as a child?
I was so obsessed with the Goosebumps series as a kid. I read all of them multiple times, including the ‘choose your own adventure’ ones. I think my favourite one was where some kids go to a summer camp and find out it’s being run by a monster of some sort. Plus the television adaptation of the books was pretty great.

Which country which you’ve not already been to would you most like to go to?
I would love to visit Egypt. I think I would just wander around museums crying whenever I saw something ancient (this happened in Greece, I was an emotional wreck when I visited the Acropolis, sad but true). I would probably have a heart attack if I went anywhere near the pyramids. But I still really want to go.

I nominate…

  1. Black Is White
  2. Films And Things
  3. filmnerdblog
  4. filmstvandlife
  5. JJames Reviews
  6. johnlinkmovies
  7. Literary Vittles
  8. MovieRob
  9. Oh! That Film Blog
  10. Video As Life

Note: I don’t know how to check whether people have less than 200 followers. So if you already have more than 200, please accept this award anyway!

My 10 Questions

  1. What was your favourite television show as a kid?
  2. What’s been your favourite holiday?

  5. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you choose to live?
  6. If you could choose another first name for yourself, what would it be?

  8. Do you have a pet? If so, what type of animal is it, and what’s its name?

  1. Congrats and good stuff!! Your fans would like to see some actual footage of you doing that dance – THANKS in advance!

    1. Haha! Thanks! One day I’ll make a companion gif to that one so Carlton and I can dance together. Apparently people approach the actor on the street all the time and ask him to dance and he gets really annoyed about it!

      1. EXCELLENT!

  2. […] you Film Grimoire for nominating me for this award! I checked in this morning and saw her post about it. Turns out […]

  3. That Carlton Banks gif totally rocks. It reminds me of him singing Tom Jones too. and LOTF reference too. Great answers. I’m glad you’re not keeping count of how many times I’ve complimented your blog. What would you answer to your Q6 btw?

    1. Thanks! I’m definitely keeping all compliments in the memory bank. 🙂 I think if I had to change my name, I would switch it to my middle name, which is Hope. But if that’s too much of a cop-out, I’ve always liked the name Athena. I’m not even Greek but I think that would be a cool name to have! What would you choose?

      1. Nice. I’d be happy to choose my middle name (Raphael) so no cop out, but either Aaron or Adrian would be good.

  4. Wow! Incredible! Nominated once more by you. Thank you so much. I like your answers btw 🙂

    1. Time to crack out the lobster! 🙂

  5. Aww! I love the gif! Your first answer, about the nicest things said about your blog, is something I can relate to. It’s truly an amazing feeling. 🙂

    1. It really is! It’s funny because when I started writing I never thought anyone would read it. But it’s little things like that which make it so worthwhile.

  6. Thanks for the nomination!! And reading your answers to the questions just confirms why I like your blog so much. Mojitos? Pear cider? Delicious. Crying at the Teatro-Museo Dalí in Figueres, Spain? I was so overwhelmed when the Tombs of Ur exhibit came to the museum near me I think I almost cried, too. All that lapis lazuli! Gorgeous.

    1. You’re very welcome! 🙂 And oh my gaaahd, I just made the mistake of Googling Tombs of Ur to have a look at all the treasures and now I’m feeling emotional again. So beautiful!! I saw the original bust of Nefertiti at the Egypt museum in Berlin and had a big old cry. Probably one of my weirder moments but I’m not ashamed!

  7. Hermione, huh? I’ll keep that in mind. 🙂

And thanks for the nomination – so very kind of you!

    1. You’re welcome! 🙂 I wish I was actually super smart like Hermione, but alas, we can’t all be fictional wizards.

  8. Congrats Anna!

    1. Thanks heaps Tom! 🙂
