Search & Rescue #5

Red_Cross_collieIt’s been a while since my last Search & Rescue post, and given the strange questions that have been posed to me via the search terms that have found this blog, it’s well overdue for another! For those who don’t know, Search & Rescue is where I provide answers and guidance to the search terms that find this blog, some of which are mysteriously specific. Here are some terms that I’ve been collecting over the past little while, and hopefully this post will help people find clarification with regard to a number of different issues!

how realistic is the movie the prestige
Pretty realistic. Everyone knows that Tesla coils can’t be trusted and that most people end up dead upon contact with them. But in all seriousness, the period aspect of The Prestige (2006) does seem to be pretty realistic, as does the portrayal of magicians/illusionists at the time. I’m not a physicist or an electrician though so I can’t attest as to whether Tesla’s magificent creations have the same powers shown in the film.

the movie about infants being smarter than adults
Well, it’s either Baby Geniuses (1999), Superbabies: Baby Geniuses 2 (2004), or Baby’s Day Out (1994). All Oscar-worthy classics of modern cinema.

how many episodes in game of thrones season 4
There were ten episodes in season 4 of Game of Thrones.

in lars and the real girl did he kill her
No. The ‘real girl’ in question is a RealDoll named Bianca, and is in fact not dead. Bianca is an inanimate object that captures the heart of not just Lars, but his whole town.

choosing

what are you if you dont fit in in divergent
The world of Divergent (2014) consists of a number of Factions that each individual must fit into. If you don’t fit into any of them, or if you do fit in to one of them and eventually fail an important test to officially join them, then you are Factionless. According to the film, if you are Factionless, then you’re essentially homeless and have to do a lot of street-sweeping and picking up rubbish, and are generally shunned from society. At least that’s my understanding, the books are probably different.

define compensated dating in japan
According to Wikipedia, compensated dating (or enjo-kōsai) is defined as “a practice which originated in Japan where older men give money and/or luxury gifts to attractive women for their companionship and, possibly, for sexual favors. The female participants range from primarily school-aged girls to housewives”. Compensated dating was shown in the film Love & Pop (1998), directed by the one and only Hideaki Anno. Pretty good film.

where did fishing without net movie filmed
Fishing Without Nets (2012) was filmed on location at Mombasa, Kenya, and in the African Great Lakes region.

under-the-skin-trailer-scarlett

is under the skin worth seeing?
Yes, absolutely. Under the Skin (2014) is a pretty amazing film that I haven’t really stopped thinking about since watching it. The haunting imagery, strange music and direction, amazing performance by Scarlett Johansson, plus the generally weird story all make this film a) worth seeing and b) completely captivating.

the bad guy in the seventh seal is…
I would argue that the ‘bad guy’ in The Seventh Seal (1957) is Death himself. But other people might argue that there is no bad guy in the film except for the evils of man and the misdeeds that occur as a result. It depends how Bergman-esque you want to be!

sean connery’s dodgy outfit
An excellent visual to end this fifth edition of Search & Rescue. Any excuse to put this picture in a post:

  1. Great post, that is one dodgy outfit.

    1. Thanks Vinnie, it’s definitely a very special kind of onesie!

  2. OMG that outfit. I always love those posts!

    1. Doesn’t he look amazing! Thanks Elina! 🙂

  3. Love that series! “in lars and the real girl did he kill her” – this made me laugh 🙂

    1. Thanks Sati! 🙂 Haha, makes me wonder if some of these seekers of information have ever heard of Wikipedia!

  4. I was in a band in the 1980’s and I wore an outfit just like that! ,,,but I will deny it 🙂

    1. That is actually awesome!

      1. No…it’s not. Cringeworthy award recipient, me 😦

  5. Loooool. Omg that last pic!!! What the heck is that from?!

    1. It’s from an amazing film from 1974 called Zardoz! It’s probably one of the strangest and more ridiculous sci fi films I’ve seen and I still can’t believe Sean Connery is in it. Definitely worth a watch if you want to see him also wearing a wedding dress!

  6. Great article, enjoyed your answers!

  7. Haha. I love these. And I agree 100% on the awesomeness that is Baby’s Day Out. A true classic

    1. Thanks! 🙂 Baby’s Day Out made me feel so stressed because I was so paranoid the whole time that the baby was going to get injured!

  8. Love this post. All my search terms are about masturbation and immigration.

    1. The ultimate combination!! Haha, I love finding out what kinds of search terms people get. Sometimes they’re so strange.

  9. hahaha another successful search and rescue. I love these posts.

one day i may have to finally put to rest all the rumors of ‘megan fox this is 40 boobs’ that are leading people to my site hahah

    1. Haha! Thanks Tom! That is one very specific search request.

  10. This is a brilliant idea! Would you mind if I used the concept on my blog? I’d credit (and link) you first line as having originated the idea.

    1. Thank you! Of course, please feel free to use this idea, it’s a whole lot of fun! 🙂

      1. Awesome, thanks! I can’t wait to write one of these!

  11. Oh dear, that last image is terrifying! The scariest one was definitely “define compensated dating in Japan.” Let’s see… in the last month I’ve gotten “why do we need wisdom from on high” (my blog is definitely of no help there), “mean things to say to an alabama fan,” “valedictory speeches that will make you shed a tear,” and, my favorite, “did chick corea ever play the piano with his feet?”

    1. Oh wow, what are some mean things to say to an Alabama fan? I just hope no one is plagiarising your sister’s amazing valedictory speech!!

  12. I’m slightly disturbed by that last image..haha!
And yup, Factionless is exactly that in the book. Haven’t seen the movie yet so its pretty much the same thing 🙂
I kind of facepalmed when I read about the compensated dating one..
    Love it! 🙂

    1. Thanks Kim! 🙂 Good old Sean Connery, always a good sport!
