Coming to America (1988, dir. John Landis) is one of those films that I watched approximately a million times when I was a kid. A silly fairy tale about an African prince who moves to New York to find himself an intelligent and strong-willed wife, it’s probably the one of the least edgy films in Eddie Murphy’s catalog. But it is a charming film, and probably one that I will continue to revisit as time goes by.

Luckily, as I was exploring Brooklyn the other day, I was able to find the apartment building where Prince Akeem (Murphy) and his trusty sidekick Semmi (Arsenio Hall) lived in the film. This apartment building is located at 390 South 5th Street and Hooper Street in Brooklyn, around the Williamsburg-ish area and right next to a train station. It’s changed quite a bit, but it still immediately sticks out if you’ve seen the film.

Photos shot on iPhone 5.

Hint for tomorrow’s location: Dr Elliot’s place of business.
