On Location: The Leaky Cauldron(s)

In today’s edition of trying to get to places where Muggles aren’t allowed, I found the locations of not one, but two of the Leaky Cauldron – the famous pub from the Harry Potter series that leads to the wizard shopping district of Diagon Alley.

This first Leaky Cauldron, from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004, dir. Alfonso Cuarón), is located right near the Borough Market in Southwark, at 7 Stoney Street. The funny thing is, when I visited, it was actually being used as a set for another film – I didn’t ask what, but I overheard someone saying it was rumoured to be the new Bridget Jones film. This Leaky Cauldron is known for being the one with the sight gag where the wizard innkeep locks his car.

Secondly, I found the Leaky Cauldron entrance from Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (2001, dir. Chris Columbus). This one can be found at Leadenhall Market in the heart of the City of London, which is quite a quaint collection of shops. Plus if you need to pick up a glasses prescription, the place is an optometrist now. People looked at me like a crazy person for taking this photo because to any normal person, this is just an optometrist’s office. But apart from being probably a good place to pick up some glasses, this market is a nice area to explore as well.

Photos shot on iPhone 6.

Hint for tomorrow’s location: A high octane, low budget stunt.
