Seriously, Sydney is The Matrix capital of the world. It seems like everywhere you go in the central city area, you see something from the film. With that in mind, I wasn’t intending on posting anything today, but I literally stumbled upon these two locations today by chance because we were just wandering around the city today looking at things.
Firstly, here is a mysterious tunnel where Neo meets his new friends from the Nebuchadnezzar, who pick him up in a car to go and meet Morpheus and take a creepy machine thing out of his belly button. (It’s been a while since I’ve seen the film.) This tunnel is located at the intersection of Campbell St and Elizabeth St, right near Chinatown, so if you’re in the mood for dumplings you’re in the right place.
Secondly, here is the AWA Tower, which can be seen in the scene where Trinity is rescuing Morpheus via helicopter towards the end of the film. You can find this location on York St, near Wynyard Park and Wynyard railway station. My partner and I were walking back to our hotel from exploring the historic Rocks area and having a look at the Sydney Harbour Bridge like total tourists, and I just so happened to look up at the sky at the right time to spot this one. Just goes to show that there is film history everywhere, you just have to keep an eye out for it.
I didn’t know the Matrix was filmed in Sydney. I love the under-the-bridge-it’s-pouring-scene. Very cool post.
Thanks heaps Cindy! Sydney is a pretty wonderful city.
I really like this type of post. I remember your London Bond ones. Who does your boyfriend want as the new Bind btw?
Thanks so much Alex! Seeking out film locations is the best. I think Adam wants Henry Cavill to be the new Bond but I’m not sure how realistic that is. Rumours say Tom Hiddleston, but I don’t know about that either!
There’s certainly plenty of contenders in the frame.
wow, i never woulda remembered either of those locations just by walking around. u r amazing Anna!
Thanks Rob! 😀 The internet helps a bit, to make sure I’m not imagining things!!
Cool sightings! It’d be so weird and neat to live in a place with so many sites from one movie, especially a big one like The Matrix. I had no idea the movie was filmed so much in Sydney.
Thanks Katy! Yeah, it must be strange. There certainly aren’t as many interesting film locations to be spotted in Melbourne!
Awesome Anna! Great pics 🙂
Thanks heaps Zoe! 😀
